Friday:
We depart London at 08.00 to start our journey north. Our first destination is the famous Merseyside city of Liverpool. We make our way to the Albert Docks area. Here as well as enjoying the sights and attractions you can discover more about the fab four. The Beatles Story (£8.99) tells the history of the Fab Four right from the early days at the Cavern Club (complete with replica of the club) to John Lennon's murder and the other band members' solo careers. With posters, photos, personal memorabilia and of course an appropriate soundtrack this is the place to come for any Beatles fan. Nearby you can take a ferry across the Mersey (£4.95) which offers fantastic river views of Liverpool's impressive skyline. The Tate Liverpool (Free) is housed in a converted warehouse in the Albert Docks and is the largest gallery of modern art and contemporary art outside London. Heading away mid afternoon we continue on to our hotel in the beautiful seaside town of Whitehaven. Time to settle in before venturing out for the evening.
Saturday:
A relaxing day. One of the best ways to enjoy the sights and attractions of the Lake District is to take a cruise on the largest lake ~ Windermere. Cruises depart from near Ambleside and offer a choice of short excursions to Bowness on Windermere or a complete circuit of the lake. (From £4:00 - £9:75). There is also an option of enjoying a Lake Cruise down to Lakeside followed by a steam train journey to Haverthwaite. Your Tour Manager will be able to advise you on all the various cruise options available to you and arrange for a discounted group price. The more adventurous can hire a bike and explore the countryside or maybe undertake one of the many walks in the area. Mid afternoon the coach will travel from Ambleside down to Bowness on Windermere. Here you can explore the town centre, visit the World of Beatrix Potter, home to Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-winkle. (£6.00) Explore the local shops and enjoy a meal out at a local pub or restaurant before we venture back to Whitehaven.
Sunday:
We head away after breakfast to visit Grasmere. It is here that you can visit Dove Cottage, home of William Wordsworth. The award-winning Wordsworth Museum displays a unique collection of manuscripts, books and paintings interpreting the life and works of Wordsworth. You can take a tour of the Cottage and explore the garden. In the village of Grasmere you'll find Sarah Nelson's Gingerbread Shop where gingerbread is baked fresh each day. A short walk away from the town is the lake. Here you can hire rowing boats, the lake is 1 mile long, half a mile wide and only 75 feet deep.
Our final destination is the town of Keswick located near Derwentwater. Yet another opportunity to enjoy a lake cruise on Derwentwater. The pencil Museum is only a short walk from the town centre. (£2:50) Here you can find out how they get the lead inside the pencil.
